Dozens of Businesses & Agencies on Site Offering Jobs to HACC Community Residents
(COOK COUNTY) – The Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) joined the Village of Robbins and the Robbins Community Help Agency to host the first Job & Career Fair co-sponsored by the two agencies. More than 25 businesses and social service agencies attended the day long Job & Career Fair with employers on site looking for perspective job seekers.
The Job & Career Fair was the first of its kind to include stakeholders and local elected officials who recognize the importance of housing and employing the residents of the Robbins community, especially young adults looking for summer jobs. HACC Executive Director Richard Monocchio was joined by Village of Robbins Mayor Tyrone Ward, and Robbins Community Help Agency Director James Coffey.
“We host several job fairs throughout the year, but this Job & Career Fair was unique because our outreach efforts began months in advance to ensure that our residents would be prepared and ready to be hired on the spot. It’s even more important that we start preparing these individuals early so that they can get the training and skills they need to secure these jobs for the summer and beyond,” said HACC Executive Director Richard Monocchio.
The HACC’s strategic approach for the career fair included outreach to residents from its Human Resources and Section 3 Hiring Employment Assistance Departments. Dozens of residents received job interview training and resume building to prepare for today’s Career Fair.
“The Housing Authority of Cook County really helped me to prepare for this important day. I know how important it is for me to have the proper attire, a professional attitude with a resume describing my skills, goals and personal information,” said resident Lawana Thomas.
The Robbins Community Help Agency was also instrumental in securing a convenient location large enough to host the Job & Career Fair.
Several of the participating businesses and agencies featured a variety of full-time positions in the areas of construction, administration, education, transportation, healthcare, and youth services. Hiring managers were available onsite, accepted resumes and conducted interviews.
More than 25 corporate businesses and agencies offered employment and training opportunities to the residents, and over 200 residents attended. The Job Fair is part of the HACC’s ongoing commitment to empower residents and provide educational and employment opportunities for residents.
