SUMMARY
The Public Information Officer (POI) is responsible for communicating with the public, media and/or
coordinating with other agencies, as necessary. The POI is responsible for developing and releasing
information about the incident to the news media, and other appropriate agencies and organizations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Writes, edits, lays out, and coordinates electronic distribution and limited printing of a variety of
newsletters, reports, brochures, fliers, etc.
• Writes and distributes press releases and newspaper articles; prepares staff and elected officials for
media interviews, and handles media relations.
• Implements branding and marketing plan.
• Coordinates development of website with vendors.
• Devises new marketing and promotion programs.
• Attends a wide variety of government functions, board meetings, special events to help communicate
and promote the agency.
• Provides direct information to citizens; creates a data base on media and citizen inquires to identify
trends on informational needs and identifies ways to systemize them.
• Participates in crisis management planning and develops crisis communication plan.
• Assists with the coordination of all FOIA requests.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships with all media outlets.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from an accredited college or university in journalism or marketing.
• Five years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS
• Work environment consists substantially of indoor office activities performed in a heated/air-conditioned
setting
• Position requires the need to sit, stand, ben, climb, and/or stretch for extended periods of time
• Frequent repetitive hand movement (e.g. typing)
SALARY
The salary range for this position is $62,500 – $91,100.
