The Housing Authority of Cook County, in collaboration with Brinshore Development, is undertaking the Sunrise Bergen Redevelopment Project, a transformative initiative aimed at preserving and expanding affordable housing in the community. A key component of the redevelopment is the construction of Sunrise New Construction, a newly built residential complex located at 1314 Wentworth Avenue. Additionally, portions of the existing Sunrise Apartments will undergo a combination of demolition and moderate rehabilitation to improve living conditions. The Daniel Bergen Homes, situated between Wentworth Avenue and Arnold Avenue, comprises 15 units, all of which will be fully renovated.
Upon completion, the Sunrise Bergen Project will provide high-quality, affordable housing for 107 families, prioritizing former public housing residents while ensuring long-term affordability for at least 40 years. The development will be available to households earning at or below 60% of the area median income (AMI), with 5% of units reserved for tenants at or below 30% AMI as part of the Statewide Referral Network. Beyond housing, the redevelopment will introduce a community center featuring gathering spaces for programming, tenant resources, and events, along with a rooftop patio. The revitalized community will also include two modern playgrounds, fostering a safe and vibrant environment for families.
The Sunrise Bergen Redevelopment Project reflects a shared vision for sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality affordable housing that meets the needs of current and future generations.
