Located at 935 Maple Ave in Homewood, Freedom Village is privately owned and operated. Residents of this development are required to pay 30% of their income in rent while the HACC subsidizes the remainder. Freedom Village is a senior housing community with one- and two-bedroom project-based voucher units for those 62 years of age and older. Applicants currently on the HACC’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program wait list will receive a preference over other applicants.

Eligibility

The PBV Program is a rental assistance program where the resident pays 30% of his/her income towards the rent. To be eligible for the one- and two- bedroom units, the head of household, cohead, or spouse must be at least 62 years of age. Additionally, the applicant’s household income may not exceed the very low income limit (50% AMI), which is as follows:

$39,250 for a 1 person household
$44,850 for a 2 person household
$50,450 for a 3 person household
$56,050 for a 4 person household

Maximum occupancy is restricted to 2 people per bedroom.

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program provides rental assistance to help low income persons afford decent and safe rental housing. HCV Programs are funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and administered by public housing agencies throughout the country. The Housing Authority of Cook County (the HACC) is the housing agency that administers an HCV Program in Suburban Cook County.
