The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program provides rental assistance to help low income persons afford decent and safe rental housing. HCV Programs are funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and administered by public housing agencies throughout the country. The Housing Authority of Cook County (the HACC) is the housing agency that administers an HCV Program in Suburban Cook County.
The Housing Choice Voucher Wait list is currently closed. Periodically the Housing Authority will issue update notices to confirm continued interest in the program. You must respond to these notices. Failure do so will result in automatic removal from the waitlist.

The PBV Program is a rental assistance program where the resident pays 30% of his/her income towards the rent to the owner and the HACC subsidizes the remainder at the PBV approved unit. These developments are privately owned and managed. Assistance is provided for the duration of tenancy in the unit.

Review of your application will be conducted to confirm eligibility for placement on the waiting list.
Periodically the housing authority will request that you update your interest in housing opportunities. You will need to reply to these notices. All address changes should be completed through the applicant portal.
You will be contacted by the Eligibility department once your application has reached to the top of the list.
The homeownership option is used to assist a family residing in a home purchased and owned by one or more members of the family. A family assisted under this option must be an existing participant in the HCV program. The HACC must have the capacity to operate a successful HCV homeownership program as defined by the regulations.

The goal of the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is to assist participants in improving their education and job skills for the purpose of becoming gainfully employed. This is accomplished by encouraging additional education, job training, and more.
Applications are available for submission by current Housing Choice Voucher Program Participants.
Upon receipt of your application, you will be invited to an informational session on the Family Self-sufficiency program.
The HACC’s Community Choice Program helps families with vouchers move to Opportunity Areas, some of the top performing neighborhoods in suburban Cook County. The program’s sole purpose is to help families like yours use your voucher as a means to improve your quality of life, not just to help you pay your rent.
