Back to School Fun with Free Dental Screenings & Backpacks at Chicago Heights, Ford Heights & Robbins

(Cook County)– The Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) kicked off the back to school season with healthy smiles and backpacks.
Every year the HACC sponsors back to school events to promote community pride, education and wellness. This year hundreds of young residents attended the back to school festivities and received free dental screenings and back packs.
Dr. Glenn Evans, DDS and his dental group staged the mobile dental van for residents and children to obtain dental screenings that included x-rays, fillings, extractions and cleanings for healthy school smiles. “We have been coming here for the last 10 years to help under served families maintain the proper dental hygiene so that their smiles last for years to come. The kids are excited when they see the dental van, and want to take care of their teeth,” said Dr. Evans. The HACC also provided free backpacks filled with notebooks and school supplies. This year the HACC formed a relationship with Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit Chicago organization that has donated books, toys and school supplies to low-income children under the age of 12 living in HACC public housing.
HACC staff and Cradles to Crayons volunteers stuffed the backpacks at the Cradles to Crayons warehouse and distributed them to each family site. “These generous donations are being offered at a time when families need them most – before school starts. Healthy smiles, books and education learning tools will keep these young people engaged and active. We are so pleased that these important resources have been provided to our housing communities,” said HACC Executive Director Richard Monocchio.
